Grades I to VIII
“Conventional education helps prepare you for life; education at Avalon is where real life meets you head-on!”
The primary and middle school years at Avalon aim at making students life-ready in every way. Whether in improving temperament and intellect, personality and presentation, or even life skills, it all comes alive in our classrooms. In equipping learners to embrace a dynamic 21st-century landscape, we espouse:
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
This area focuses on cultivating dispositions, attitudes, self-confidence, self-esteem, building relationships, nurturing positive behavior and self-control, and fostering a sense of community among our young learners.
Communication, Language, and Literacy
We guide our students in developing their language skills, both for effective communication and thoughtful expression. This encompasses language for communication, language for thinking, linking sounds and letters, reading, writing, and handwriting.
Problem Solving, Reasoning, and Numeracy
Our curriculum equips children with numerical and problem-solving skills, including understanding numbers, counting, calculations, and exploring shapes, space, and measurements.
Physical Development
We emphasize the importance of physical well-being, encompassing movement and spatial awareness, health and bodily awareness, and the use of equipment and materials to promote active and healthy lifestyles.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
This area encourages exploration, investigation, designing, making, proficiency in information and communication technology (ICT), understanding concepts of time and place, and fostering a sense of belonging to various communities.
Creative Development
We nurture creativity through artistic endeavors, including exploring various media and materials, creating music and dance, and fostering imaginative play, all of which help in the development of a child's imagination and creativity.
Life is a sum of complex experiences woven into one. To help demystify the world and its complex theories, we have done away with subject fragments and promote interdisciplinary learning experiences. Watch and marvel as languages, history, music, and art come together seamlessly and create a cogent, comprehensive revelation.
Going far beyond rote learning and memorization, our thematic project-based approach promotes and develops skills of reasoning, questioning, and investigation. While making connections and solving meaningful problems, students also take ownership of collective accomplishments as a class and collaboration among peers.
The end of education is the cultivation of character. The 16 Habits of Mind, woven intrinsically into every learning nugget allow children to remain lifelong learners by reflecting on their thinking, building interdependence, and continuing to view the world with wonder and awe.
In preparing our students to be globally responsive, responsible individuals, we have linked our projects and learning to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By encouraging better life choices, conscious consumerism, and an improved world for all, we leave learners aspiring to be and do more for the world they are gifted with.
Through these tentative years, where students are opening themselves to a world of self-discovery and global exploration, we extend a space that is non-competitive, inclusive, and open. We empower students to use their discretion to give them direction and help them chart the course to become the individuals they are destined to be.
